Feeling Better Now… Sort of…

I didn't look this bad, but I sure felt like it.

I’m feeling better now. I even played catch with mommy this morning. I wanted to show you the Get Well Card mommy’s ex-husband Grant sent me. That was very nice of him. Inside it said: “Here are some you may want to add to the list– HOPE and HUGS.” He also sent a personal message to me, but it is … ah… personal.

I wish I had met him. He and mommy are still friends and he seems a really cool guy.

Mommy is still feeding me that Prescription Diet AD stuff. It’s better than that CD stuff, but not much. So is she’s going to make me eat it, I’m going to make her hand feed it to me. For a while I would just lick it off her fingers, so she had to stay with me the whole time. I still make her serve it to me on her fingers, but after I lick it off, I will eat a mouthfull or two off the plate. I do that because mommy can’t stay hunched over the whole time, so this way she gets to stand up straight between offerings.

Since she is also so concerned about me peeing and pooping, I do it in the litter box only when she is standing over me. That way she can tell that it is from me and not brother Pacey Jack or sister Danny Girl. I do it to relieve her concern since she has been stressing out completely. And for this she calls me a Divo. I just feel I deserve the extra attention if I’m going to be forced to eat that unappetizing food. And do my business in litter boxes.

I’m Home, Now

I came home from the hospital on Sunday. Since then, life hasn’t been much fun, but I’m no longer in pain. The diagnosis was struvite crystals in my urine and bladder. The catheter took care of that problem but supposedly, I’ll have to eat special prescription food for the rest of my life. Yuck and double yuck. Why me? I’m only 2 years old.

I spend most of my time under the bed or couch for protection. Whichever room my mommy happens to be in at the time.

In the photos you see my big sister Danny Girl watching over me. This is a first, but I’m very grateful to her for doing it.

Mommy squirts three kinds of meds into me twice a day. Not fun. But the biggest challenge is the food. Mommy is gettting very frustrated with me, but I just can’t stand that Prescription Diet c/d. Chicken flavor – hah. To be fair to me, Pacey Jack and Danny Girl won’t touch it either. They did eat up the Royal Canin SO so I didn’t get much of that. Mommy has some others to try so I’m hoping they taste better.

She has tried to feed Danny Girl and Pacey Jack regular food. And no matter how much I try to sneak some, she won’t let me. My brother and sister are standing in solidarity with me — as soon as the door closes between us, they sit on the other side of it, too and nobody eats.

I did pee a couple of times in front of mommy so she wouldn’t worry about me. Twice in the litter box and once on the carpeting so mommy would know I wasn’t happy with the current food arrangement.

I went in for my checkup yesterday and Dr. Jones said I was a little dehydrated (you wouldn’t be drinking much either if you went through the trauma I did), so the tech put a bolus injection of fluids in my neck. Dr. Jones expressed my bladder and said I was flowing freely.

All of that stress made me poop in the carrier on the way home in the car. At least then, mommy got the privilege of smelling it all the way home.

I know that mommy is doing her best for me and I’m not ungrateful. I showed her that by sleeping next to her on Monday night. I just hate that yucky food. And want to be back to normal.

A Visit from Mommy

Yesterday, Mommy came to visit me in the hospital. The tech brought me out with my catheter and urine bag still attached. They unattached the IV solutions they had me on and filled the syringe with heparinized saline so the line would stay open while I visited with Mommy. They also had me in one of those uncomfortable Elizabethan collars.

It was nice to see Mommy but I wasn’t really feeling very well. Certainly not comfortable with all those tubes sticking out of me. I did manage to purr for her, but I was too lethargic for anything else. At one point I fell asleep, even though I tried to stay awake.

I could tell that Mommy wasn’t happy that my urine was still a bit pink from a little blood mixing in it. They are taking good care of me here at Blue Cross Pet Hospital, but I wanna go home and be with Mommy and my brother and sister.

Not the best of Thanksgivings

Mischief Kirk is not having a happy Thanksgiving. He’s all alone in the hospital. And will be until Saturday or Sunday. Although I can come visit him on Friday. He’s developed crystals in his urine which caused blockage. They had to sedate him and put a catheter in which they say is now running free so that should mean he doesn’t need surgery. They think he’ll poop freely (he was doing neither) now that the bladder has been emptied. He needs to be on the catheter and IVs for three days, so there goes nearly $1000. And he’ll have to be on a special diet for the rest of his life — he’s only 2.

But he wishes everybody else a Happy Thanksgiving.

Getting Mom’s Attention

Mom is always working on the computer, but I know how to get her attention. I climb up onto the book cabinet which house her precious Native American Kachinas and pottery and pound on lampshade on the lamp between the two book cabinets. If that doesn’t get her attention, I gnaw on it a bit. Works every time. I have to watch her though so as soon as she goes for the laser light to distract me, I can jump down and get into position to play with the red bouncing light.

Making Mommy Happy

Usually when sister Danny Girl gets up on Mommy’s bed, she takes the royal position — on mommy’s pillows — as if she was the queen. She will not let Pacey or me join her. Instead, we are relegated to the pillows at the end of the bed.

However, Pacey and I do share the bed with Mommy many nights and then Danny Girl sleeps on the pillows at the end of the bed. Because heaven help her if she sleeps with us. I guess she thinks a vortex would open up and swallow us all.

However, on occasion, Danny Girl does the unthinkable and lets me sleep with her… at least for a little while.

Like I said, Pacey and I often sleep with Mommy — me on her left side and Pacey on her right side, or one of us across her stomach and thighs. We don’t have photos because, duh, the photographer is alseep or trying to sleep.

Well, last night, the impossible happened and made Mommy very happy. All three of us were snuggled up in bed with her. I was on her left side, as always — almost every night, toy tucked into the covers somewhere in case she wants to play — Pacey was on her right side, and Danny was in the middle… on top of her stomach and thighs. Don’t know how much sleep she got, put she certainly was happy.

Mommy’s Mad at Me And I Don’t Understand

Mommy’s mad at me and I don’t understand why she’s making such a big deal of this. She brought in a new bag of Swheat Scoop, which I just love. Yes, I know that it is for my litter box, but it’s wheat, all natural, and it’s good to eat as well.

Usually, I’m taking a few nibbles out of what she newly pours into my litter box, but today, she put the bag down as soon as she entered, so I helped myself. I’m only a cat so I could only tear open the side with my teeth.

Next thing I know, she’s yelling at me for getting litter all over the carpeting. I can tell. SHE IS NOT HAPPY WITH ME. So I made myself scarce while she cleaned up the litter. She was still yelling at me as she vacuumed up the litter… something about all the wasted litter and money. I’ll say it’s a waste, I could’ve been nibbling on that for days.

So I sought the protection of my big sister Danny Girl and tried to look as cute and innocent as I could. When Mommy didn’t buy it, I gave her my best innocent look of ‘who me?’

You’d think she’d be happy that Danny was letting me stay up with her. Danny doesn’t always protect me like that.

C’mon… a little litter in the carpetting… what’s the big deal?

Saluting Veterans on Veterans Day

I, too, want to thank all of those who have served or who have had family members who have served in All Armed Forces fighting to keep us safe and free, regardless of which country that may be… who have put their careers and lives on hold to do so and especially those who have sacrificed for us, both human and feline. My mommy wouldn’t be here without you and I’d be living a different life. And for those four-legged creatures, i.e. dogs, who have served with you, I thank them for their service as well.

How was I Supposed to Know?

When mommy takes off her CPAP mask in the morning, I’m usually sitting next to the bed, ready to play toss and catch with her. Usually in preparation, I’ve planted a toy for her to throw right near her.

She likes me to actually put it right next to her so she doesn’t have to reach far… can you say lazy?

Well, last night, she took off the mask and there I was, ready to play. But she wouldn’t play with me. Even though I put Mr. Squiggle right up against her neck. Even when I touched her face with my paw to remind her. She whined something about it being 3:30 am and she needed sleep.

How was I to know she was only taking it off because the bad mask was leaking and she was tired of dealing with it? We always play when she takes it off.
